German movies for learning German
Nicos Weg – Nico‘s way
Nico is from Spain and can barely speak German. He lands in Germany to visit his aunt and loses all his luggage. Like a lot of people he had a notion that Germans are very straightforward and rude and he thought he wouldn’t get any help. Things and events turnout to be different when a little girl Emma and her aunt Lisa decide to help him.
This is a thing about foreign countries. We have progressed a lot and it indeed has become a smaller world but it still is a big deal going to a foreign country and getting along with people. The anxiety and excitement both dance in your stomach on full volume and suddenly you start sweating.
The world has unfolded itself in magnificent pieces. Some pieces got the seas, some the mountains, some the rivers and some just the skies. We later named them as continents, countries, cities and regions. These places then embellished themselves with culture, traditions, customs, rituals, beliefs and languages and here they are beautifully dressed places.
Ausland is a german Word that literally means out of the land. Some things you realise and discover about your own country only when you are out of your land.
Your own land or city feels like first love. You have your people there, food that makes you all lure around it, language in which you are sung to sleep and consoled, Places know you a little better and the roads know your destination. First love is always very special, but who says you can’t fall again?
Nico came to Germany and it welcomed him with warmth and looked after him as its own. How would one resist falling in love again?
So here’s a recommendation that leads you to no destination but Nico‘s way. It is so well structured that one ends up covering all the aspects of language concerning the particular level. Available for all three levels A1, A2 and B1.
Room on the broom
A short animated movie that shows you the meaning and importance of togetherness, helpfulness and friendship.
Sounds cool but am I a kid to watch this movie and get the things explained that I already know?
Of course not!
We are not recommending you this, to teach you these values but to make you realise something.
When we start learning a language, it’s as good as going back to lanes of childhood, where learning A,B,C,D in a tune, writing the number spellings 5 times, having a rendezvous with the nouns, verbs, articles, adjectives and grammar was our foundation. It takes you to a place where, answering the questions like how are you or what are you doing correctly, gets you a very good and a pat on your back. It’s a simple thing but puts a delighted smile on your face. We see but we don’t want to realise these small things in our language journey as it seems silly. Same happens when we consider watching cartoon movies or cartoons to learn a language. It feels silly but that was one of the ways we learned our first language too. They are simple to understand and help you develop your language skills. Learning a language as a grown up doesn’t change the way you learn it.
Accept more and doubt less. That’s the key to learning a language. It is available in German Japanese and French on Amazon Prime.
Sophie Scholl
History is described as past events, but it’s so much more than that. History is made, when something is done to make a change. A change that benefits everyone, a change that is in good faith, a change that brings prosperity to everyone and not just one’s own self. That is greed. One such story about a brother and a sister, who raised their voice for what they felt was wrong. Sophie and Hans did their Bit to make a change. Sophie Scholl was an anti nazi activist, who was also a member of a non violent resistance group white rose as a student. These brave souls didn’t fear the consequences. Sophie was a young 21 years old girl, with a vision to make a change in the society and make people aware, which path they were walking and where it led. Hans put his thoughts on papers in words so that people come together to stop what was wrong and stop following the path they were forced to follow.
They have always led a happy life. Their father had always given them the right to choose for themselves. Their childhood was comfortable and secure. What made them do this? Was it the way they were raised? Were they gifted a brave soul? Where did they learn to be brave?
Bravery can’t be taught, the values we get help us understand and realise the need to act but it’s always a choice. To say or not to say. To act or not to act. To fight or not to fight. They made their choice and accepted the punishment. They were caught putting leaflets at the Munich university and were immediately arrested by the Gestapo (Geheime Staatspolizei German: “Secret State Police”) and were ordered to be executed for raising their voice against the way Nazi party ruled.
They didn’t fear anything as they conquered it and their sacrifice is incomparable to any and their courage relentless.
This recommendation is to make you all aware about an aspect of history. The language used is difficult to understand and intense but it’s a heart touching movie about these siblings and their Heldentat – heroic deed
Der Besuch: The visit
A visit is quite a baffling thing. Some visits are wanted ,loved ,cared about and always welcomed, while others, well just the opposite of it. Some of them are regular visits, with a knock, the way and number of times a bell rings, we can identify who it is and some of them appear at the doorstep with a question, who it would be?
Visits don’t really make me happy. They force me to step out of my room and participate in the show of honour and respect, but every time we have a visit, there’s a shine in my grandma’s eyes. As if a child is being lured by an ice cream.
Why do these visits make you happy? I asked
If not these, I will have those.
Which? I asked astounded
You want to know, she asked. Okay
Visit from fading memories, they knock the doorstep of my mind very often but refuse to step in. Visit from the lost abilities, they try to cheer me up but leave me bare, because my body doesn’t allow me to cook or dance or even read anymore. A Visit from loneliness and anxiety, I don’t want to open doors for these but it’s a visit after all. I ought to welcome them half hearted and finally the visit from your grandpa, that’s my most favourite one. We don’t always get what the point is, but we like it that way. Some things under the clouds, between the lines and deeply dwelled in silence. For a while we could hear only the minutes ticking by.
This film will bring a lot of visits to the door of your Soul. Is this what being old is about? Grandma has forgotten how to get along with her best friend The Stove. Wants to meet the friends, so her thoughts invited them and had a beautiful late night dinner with them.
You will get introduced to a dialect and that’s what makes this one special. Don’t push yourself too hard to understand everything. Just enjoy the treat.
