5 German Movies to that help you improve

Watch, Learn & have fun with German!

Part 1

Just add magic: our first recommendation

As the name suggests, it’s a show about magic, friendship, love, family, blunders and lots of fun. It’s a story about three girls protecting a magical cooking book as it’s Protector. The book chooses its own protector and remains with them till it finds the next group of protectors.

Magic is indeed a magical world. It allows you to believe in things which are unbelievable, fascinating, freakishly astonishing and supernatural. It opens the tightly shut doors of childhood imaginations, wildness and escape in our untrue world.

With every recipe it gives you a tangy taste of twists and turns, sweet taste of memories in making, salty taste of problems and spicy taste of mischief.

Every episode takes you to the lane of new mysteries and secrets. How the girls manage solving the mysteries and how they mend the broken pieces of their lives together to make it more beautiful, is worth watching. In their Journey through all the hustle they find their way to life.

We recommend this show to ones, who are doing or have completed B1 level. You find this show on Amazon Prime and can watch it in German, Japanese and French(they also have a couple of other languages)

Mein Weg nach Deutschland- My Way to Germany

This is a beautiful series about the life of a girl, who is new in Germany. Her struggle to get through everyday is so real and relatable. A new place brings a lot of gifts for you. Some happy, some stressful and some surprisingly disappointing. Language is one such gift but which sort of? It’s hard to answer 😜

It depicts the beautiful riot inside her. Riot of emotions, like curiosity, nervousness, excitement, lonesomeness, wanting to fit in but feeling like a wrong piece of puzzle. She realises this, how simple it is to see a human as a human, not as German, American, Indian or French. The simplest things like buying a ticket, ordering food or even being in that country gives you immense joy and happiness.

We highly recommend this show to people learning A1. This show will work as a mirror to see how difficult it can get, to survive in Germany yet Fall in love with the place, people and language.

Türken und ein Baby- three Turks and a baby

It’s a movie about the Yildiz brothers Celal,Sami and Mesut. They live under the same roof. Their parents are no more. They inherited a bridal garment store and some gold from their parents. They are basically from turkey but have made Germany their home and adapted themselves to the culture there, except Mesut, who decided to practice Islam and wants to stay connected to his roots. Their messy lives become messier, when they have to take care of a baby. It’s a treat to watch their life problems rambling around lots of nappies and baby food.

Born from the same other, these brothers are so different from each other. They are like different fruits from the same tree. It’s amazing how the blood in your veins does not decide how you actually will be. It’s your choices and decisions that make you YOU.

You can be a complete mess, make a thousand mistakes, do regretful things, hurt people but by the end of the day, you always go back home. Where you will always be accepted as you are.

Problems, fights and disagreements always try to create a wall between people but if we are ready to overcome these walls, then they just make the way through the journey called life joyous and memorable.

It’s a made-for-fun movie. People who have completed their A2 will be able to understand some parts in the movie. You’ll also get a zest of colloquial language.

Die drei Königskinder

Fairy tales. The tales about fairies, love,Fantasy, power of manifesting things in life and magic. It’s like a whole new world and as you dive in this world, it greets you with enchantment and surrealism. People in fairylands are kind hearted and all good things. There’s generally one malicious villain, who tries to chase away the few good things in your life.

Unlike real life, where sometimes we ourselves are villains and chase away teensy Weensy happy moments in life. The grounds on which a fairytale works are quite simple. Someone’s cruelty balances out on someone else’s mercy. The hollowness felt because of someone’s hate is filled by someone’s love and affection and by the end of it, you get served what you’ve been cooking. Real life is unfortunately not that straight. Many times we are served the messes of others and our rewards are served to someone else, but we can at least have our escape to believe the unbelievable.

Watching fairy tales  in order to enhance language skills can be fruitful for you all, as the speed that they speak at, is quite slow. One can understand a lot of things and one must not put in a lot of effort to understand the storyline. We picked this one, as it is conventionally unconventional and puts a smile on your face by the end. (although the movie is in German🤣)

Extr@

It’s a humorous show about the lives of four friends. Anna, Sasha, Nick and Sam. Anna and Sasha share an  apartment and pretty much a lot of things, like their interests, secrets and fondness for Sam. Apartment sharing has been quite a cool thing for a lot of years now. They have a fairly tolerable friend and neighbor Nick, who is a superstar but only in the film that runs housefull in his head. Sam is a rich American, who is Sasha‘s letter friend. One fine day, he shines at the doorstep of Sasha and Anna with a heavy luggage, heart overflowing with enthusiasm and overpowering command over the language. Ich bin Amerika und ich komme aus Sam. He said and voila…!!! The journey begins. Away from home Sam found his home in his new friends. Integrity has been a part of this world and also in Germany. He not only learns the language, gets along with the people freely but also who he really is. Every character is like a unique punch of spices that adds flavours to the show, to present a flavourful dish for us. Where Sam adds the creaminess of his innocence and curiosity, Anna the sugar of her sweetness, Nick the tangy sourness of his madness and intelligence and Sasha the spice of her sassiness and sarcasm.

This show is a must watch, as Sam’s language journey is a glimpse of every German learner’s journey. It is perfect for people, who are doing their A2 and helps a little person.
