MEXT is the scholarship from Japan's Ministry of Education that funds international students for undergraduate, graduate and research study, usually covering tuition, a monthly stipend and airfare. Indians apply via the Embassy route or the University Recommendation route.
Many MEXT programmes are English-taught, so N5–N4 Japanese is enough for daily life; Japanese-taught tracks need closer to N2. A funded place comes with a six-month language prep period in Japan.
N5–N4 for English-taught + daily life; N2 for Japanese-taught programmes.
