The Essentials of the Declaration of Commitment
The declaration of commitment is a formal pledge by a resident in Germany to cover all living expenses for a visitor, such as accommodation, food, health care, and even expenses related to the visitor’s possible departure from Germany. This commitment is crucial when the visitor, such as your parent, cannot sufficiently demonstrate their financial stability to cover their stay.
Duration and Validity: Once issued, the declaration is valid for five years, starting from the date your parent enters Germany. This is particularly beneficial as it covers both short-term visits under Schengen visas
Cost Implications: The process involves a fee, which varies based on the age of the beneficiary — €29 for adults and €14.50 for minors.
