Mastering the B1 Level

Level B1 is the threshold of independence. It is often the minimum requirement for the Opportunity Card, Ausbildung, and several job roles in Germany.

Goethe/TELC B1 Exam Pattern

B1 is a major milestone. You must prove you can use the language independently in most everyday situations and when traveling.

• Listening: 40 mins - Discussions and presentations on general topics.
• Reading: 65 mins - Blog posts, emails, and newspaper articles.
• Writing: 60 mins - Expressing your opinion on a current topic via email/letter.
• Speaking: 15 mins - Planning an activity with a partner and presenting a topic.
• Pass Requirement: Modular exam; you must pass all 4 modules (60/100 each).

B1 represents 'Independent Use' and is the minimum requirement for most significant legal and professional milestones in Germany.
