The Chancenkarte is a points-based visa that allows you to enter Germany to look for jobs while supporting yourself through part-time work.

Why the Opportunity Card?

Wider Access

Open to anyone with a degree recognized in their home country, not just those with fully German-equivalent degrees.

Stay for 1 Year

Unlike the Job Seeker Visa (6 months), the OC allows you to stay for a full 12 months.

Work Permission

You are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week in any sector while searching for a full-time job.

Ease of Transition

Convert directly to a Blue Card or Work Permit once you secure a job contract.

The 6-Point Rule

To apply, you must meet the basic financial requirements and score at least 6 points in the eligibility assessment. German language skills (A1-B2) contribute significantly to these points.

ZAB Recognition Delay

Applying without verifying if your degree is 'Equate' on Anabin/ZAB. This can stall your visa for 3+ months.

A1 Appointment Bottleneck

The German embassy often has long wait times for A1 Goethe exams and visa appointments. Don't book tickets first.

Funding Undershot

You need proof of ~€12,000 in a blocked account. Many applicants forget the taxes and transfer fees.
