If you did your 12th grade in India (CBSE, ISC, or State Board), your qualification is often not directly equivalent to the German "Abitur".
A Studienkolleg is a one-year foundation course that bridges this gap. It prepares you technically and linguistically for your chosen bachelor's program.
Studienkollegs are only for Bachelor's students. If you are looking for a Master's degree, you do NOT need this.
You need at least B1/B2 German to pass the entrance exam. Don't wait until the last minute.

Reach B1/B2 level German. This is non-negotiable. Also brush up on 11th & 12th grade Math/Science basics.
Get your 10th & 12th marksheets, passport, and language certificates. Official translations are a must.
Most Studienkollegs accept applications via the uni-assist portal. Watch out for deadlines (Jan 15 / July 15).
Fly to Germany (or take it online if available) for the Entrance Exam. It tests German and Math.
Attend the 1-year course. Pass the final Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) to get your university entrance qualification.
