Teaching, Translation, Interpretation, these are the evergreen job opportunities that will remain on the top of the list. But since the emergence of Covid – 19, the world has changed and a lot more new opportunities have sprung up in the field of Languages.
Career in Languages
- Content Creator : Are you a person who can sew words into a sentence like the pearls of a beautiful necklace ? Are words your best friend and they are always by your side ? Then this is the best career option for you. If you are an avid reader and love to write you should pursue this profession. Creating good content is the most needed in the market at the moment. Naturally you can do this in English or in your native language. But if you are well versed with a foreign language, you can write content for people from another country. Wouldn’t that open doors to an entire new culture and information. This of course comes with its own set of challenges. You have to excel at the language with at least a bare minimum of 4th level in the new language. You should know how to write and have absolute passion towards creating content. An added knowledge of a different field, for example management, technology, psychology or even art will give you a direction of where you should look for opportunities. This is probably a slow way of growing, but it will definitely give you the satisfaction of creating something new every time. Best places to look for Content Creator Jobs are at an Ad Agency, Marketing Firms, Software Companies or any of those industries which need words that can attract customers. This profession is not so good for a fresher, but with some experience you can definitely find your path towards a new Eden.
Voice-over Artist : “70 Minuten ! Ihr habt 70 Minuten.” Can you mimic Shahrukh Khan from Chak De in German ? Do you have control over your voice, you know how to modulate the words, you can also change the voice as per the artist and the character. Then this, my friend, is the perfect career for you. Since globalization, we see different series, movies, web series at the comfort of our homes and we can change the languages as per our convenience. How do you think we see the change in the language. The dialogues, the feel of the character. No! It’s not AI yet, there are real people behind the language change. They actually give voices to the characters in the required language. This career is an opportunity for you to use your foreign language skills. Learn a new language with its culture, dialects, intonations, melodies and Voila! you can use all of this and become a beautiful voice-over artist. You get to live the character, feel the joy and the pain, not through facial expressions but even more than that. The words that you would speak would touch the heart of the audience. Theater Artist : A similar career option to voice-over artist, but not in the recording studio. It is out, in front of a live audience who can see you perform live. If you aspire to be on the stage and perform, then this is an opportunity for you. How do languages help ? Without a good command over a language, you won’t be confident to deliver the dialogues. Some of the most famous theater artists have spent months or even years to get a good command over the language. With a knowledge of multiple languages you are open to multiple theater groups and different cultures. Why wait, start your practice right away!
Tourist guide : While I was learning German language at Goethe Institute, Pune, many of my classmates were from Rajasthan. When asked why they were learning German, they answered because this helps them to interact with our customers, (who are tourists there) in a better way. If you can talk in the language that the other person speaks, it just doesn’t go to their brain, but also to their heart. They see the efforts you are putting in to make them feel comfortable. Of course you need to be interested in traveling, reading about places, getting to know about the history of a particular city and so on. But an extra language will always help you with new people and in turn with a good customer base. There are multiple courses for travel and tourism which also teach you different languages.
The strength of good command over a language is to be able to communicate to a person easily and in a way he / she could understand you. You have a thousand ideas in your mind, new business strategies, but if you cannot put them into the right words, you won’t be able to survive. I don’t say learn only a foreign language, but learn a language that will uplift you, culturally and professionally. All the above given career options cannot just be accomplished with only a certificate of language, you also need to be persistent, determined and extremely passionate about your work. Nothing comes easy. Everything that comes easy is not sustainable.
