List of Apps for Teaching & Learning Languages Online

Online Learning Apps for German

Teaching and learning are two correlated actions. One cannot happen without the other one. If I asked you to imagine an ideal class, many end up seeing a nice, bright and big classroom and a teacher in it. That’s the way we have learnt, that’s the way we saw it and that’s the way we wanted it. Until covid happened.

After this there was almost nothing that couldn’t have been done online. Teaching, consulting, working, thinking and creating. I got ready for this unplanned and unpleasant bumpy ride, until I actually started enjoying it.

I don’t consider the online classes a compromise anymore. I’m a firm believer that it is as effective as a physical class, because of the wide range of learning apps, tools, websites and games available online.

Here are some Apps to teach and learn German better in the class.

1. Suchsel

It is an app that reduces the pain of making crossword puzzles for the students. You just need to open the site and choose the topic and words related to it and voilà!!! Your crossword puzzle game is ready. You can let your students annotate the words in the puzzle as it’s downloadable only as a PDF. It’s not too colourful, if you are planning to use it for children. It’s free of cost and also costs you minimum time. A must try to cover all sorts of vocabulary.

2. Learning Apps org

Some apps are focused on one feature at a time, whereas there are some that know absolutely no boundaries. This is one such app. It’s like an ocean where you can sail for hours and hours. This app can be used to create exercises in various formats, such as, quizzes, puzzles, flash cards, fill ups and what not. You just need to register and you are free to choose your own options as per your class.

3. Wordwall

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration, if I say this one is a piece of my heart. What a beautiful way to design your course material and exercises. This will definitely give you nostalgia as it looks like the video games we played as kids. This particular App is so colorful, playful, cheerful and all sorts of good fuls. On one hand we can make a basic rearrange a sentence and on the other hand a maze chase!!! Isn’t that Amazing??? However there are some more exciting options like, word magnets, hangman, spider diagram and brainstorm available only for a pro user.

4. Padlet

This learning App functions pretty simple. You need to register, create a padlet with a suitable title, description and background and send its link to the students. They can write here about any topic you want them to write about. For me this works as a student teacher virtual scrapbook. Where we can post our views, opinions and answers with relevant pictures for all to see it and comment on it. In online classes, where you don’t get a chance to meet your students, you can sit together and see the pictures and texts written by them.

5. Live worksheets

Just like the name suggests, this learning App has worksheets that one can solve live. It’s an easy, interactive, fun and less time consuming way to let the students solve exercises with or without a trainer. What’s nicer than self correcting exercises for a student and a trainer. There are plenty of worksheets available and you can also create your own worksheets. A video tutorial is also available for the same.

You don’t need to make your students wait to get their work corrected, later the trainers just need to invest time for doubts.

6. Jamboard

It has always been a little scary yet exciting feeling, when a teacher asked us to come up and write something on a board. Can you imagine doing that in an online class?

You can do it through this amazing app Jamboard by Google. One can write texts, use pictures, resize a text and draw something by dragging the mouse. We definitely had no such options on a black board. Just imagine how bright and colorful it would have looked.
